Biography
Dr. Nordin is an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida, holding a joint appointment between the Department of Materials Science and Engineering department and the College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL). His research lab specializes in semiconductor materials/device design, growth, fabrication and characterization. The lab focuses on semiconductor devices that emit or detect light, and employs nanostructuring techniques to enhance light-matter interactions and significantly improve device performance.
Dr. Nordin earned a bachelor’s degree in physics from Grinnell College, followed by master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical and computer engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. During his graduate studies, he was associated with Professor Dan Wasserman’s group, where he concentrated on III-V ultra-thin plasmonic infrared detectors and emitters. After completing his graduate studies, Dr. Nordin held a postdoctoral research fellowship at Stanford University’s Geballe Lab for Advanced Materials, focusing on dissimilar III-V and IV-VI semiconductor heteroepitaxial devices for mid-infrared applications.
