Membership Dues
While we do not have “member dues”, OPTICA requires you to be a member of the national organization. This is also required to be apart of any event, project, or workshop we hold. Price is $20 for a year long subscription.

Telescope Project Updates
The Project
Each of you will be designing your very own collapsible telescope using OnShape 3D modeling software by the end of November.
The best part? You will be taking home your telescopes once they are completed!
Meeting Schedule
Completed:
- October 8th @5:30pm – CREOL room 102
- Overview of the project including details and requirements
- October 22nd @6pm – EGN 1 room 260
- Guided workshop in which you will complete challenges involving designing 3D models and creating assemblies using OnShape.
- October 24th @6pm – EGN 1 room 260
- Step-by-step walkthrough of how we designed our lens mounts. Body pieces of the telescope must be compatible with the lens mounts.
- October 29th @6pm – CREOL room 103
- Lecture about geometric optics and how lenses work given by Dr. Stephen Eikenberry. *IMPORTANT*
- November 5th @6pm – EGN 1 room 260
- Free day to work on telescope body pieces with the guidance of more experienced OnShape users.
Upcoming:
- November 7th @6pm – CREOL Lounge
- Parametric Lens Mount Design (Make-up from October 24th)
- November 12th @6pm – EGN 1 room 260
- Body piece design day. This is the last day to submit your 3D models for printing!!!
- November 19th @6pm – EGN 1 room 260
- Assembly meeting. Receive your 3D printed parts and lenses so you can build your telescope!
Phase 1 Project Committee
We are accepting four students of all levels of experience and field of study to be a part of a committee that will assist with the design, coordination, and operation of our next Phase 1 project in the Spring semester. You will still be able to participate in the project! This is a great opportunity to experience project management.

Laser Playground Updates
Version 1
- Repainted the walls
- Rusty 36″ x 24″ metal and wood base
- Threads lost integrity and needed to be retapped
- Fog machine had no charger
Version 2
- Properly machined, highly accurate 24″ x 24″ base
- Could potentially add a laser-fiber display
Future Goals
- Order a custom aluminum board
- Laser cut new walls
- Order our own optical pieces instead of borrowing from the UG lab
- New laser setups

How can I join?
- Come to one of our project meetings. They are held every MWF 5:30pm – 8:30pm in Partnership II. No, you don’t have to be there the entire time.
- Join one of our five subteams (Drive, Arm, Science, Software, Electrical).
- Join the RCCF Discord server and get assigned the Project S.T.O.R.M. role.
- Continue to show up and contribute to the project. That’s all there is to it!
