The MIR-Combs Laboratory at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a world-leading research program in ultrafast lasers, optical frequency combs, nonlinear optics, and precision spectroscopy. Duration: 12 months, with the possibility of extension.
Our laboratory develops next-generation frequency-comb technologies spanning the terahertz (THz), mid-infrared (mid-IR), ultraviolet (UV), deep-UV, and vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectral regions for applications in precision molecular spectroscopy, biomedical sensing, quantum science, and frequency metrology. The successful candidate will work with state-of-the-art ultrafast laser systems and advanced nonlinear optical platforms while contributing to internationally recognized research at the forefront of optical science.
Research Areas
The successful candidate will participate in several of the following research directions:
- Ultrafast Cr:ZnS laser systems and amplifier technologies
- Optical frequency combs and dual-comb spectroscopy
- Broadband mid-infrared and terahertz frequency-comb generation
- UV, deep-UV and vacuum-UV frequency combs through cascaded nonlinear frequency conversion
- Electro-optic sampling and broadband coherent detection
- Precision molecular spectroscopy with MHz-level spectral resolution and kHZ-level absolute frequency accuracy
- Novel nonlinear optical materials, including metamaterials and layered semiconductors
- Advanced nonlinear frequency conversion and ultrafast photonics
- Quantum optics
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline by the anticipated start date. Candidates should have a strong publication record and demonstrated expertise in at least one of the following areas:
- Femtosecond and ultrafast laser systems
- Nonlinear optics
- Optical frequency combs
- Mid-infared, terahertz, UV, or VUV photonics
- Laser spectroscopy
- Experimental atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics
The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate outstanding experimental skills, scientific creativity, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and excellent written and oral communication skills.
