Graduate Student Jessica Pena awarded DEPS fellowship

Jessica Pena, a senior graduate student with the Laser Plasma Laboratory in the College of Optics & Photonics has been awarded a $5,000 Fellowship from the Directed Energy Professional Society for FY21. DEPS looks for students working in the DE (Directed Energy) fields of USPL (Ultra Short Pulse Lasers), HEL (High Energy Lasers) and HPM (High Power Microwave) systems.

This could not come at a better time when we are beginning to promote the University’s new center for directed energy.  It recognizes LPL’s long commitment to DE (seven LPL students have won some 10  DEPS fellowships valued at $85,000 over the last decade), and to its promotion of women in science.  Jessica is one of only a few women selected for this award.
