CREOL’s Graduate Certificate Programs are designed to provide working professionals with knowledge and training in optical systems and applied optics and photonics to enhance their career opportunities and meet their current responsibilities.
Admission is open to those with a bachelor’s degree in science and engineering or a closely related discipline from a regionally accredited institution.
Certificate programs can be completed fully online or in person.
Certificates Available
The certificate program requires 12 credit hours minimum beyond the bachelor’s degree. Students complete two required courses and two elective courses for a total of 12 credit hours.
Optical Imaging Systems

Focus: Optical engineering in imaging, electro-optic systems, radiometry, and optical system design.
Required Courses: 6 Credit Hours
- OSE 6115 Interference, Diffraction and Coherence – 3 CH
- OSE 6211 Imaging and Optical Systems – 3 CH
Elective Courses: 6 Credit Hours
Choose two of the following four courses:
- OSE 6242 Infrared Systems – 3 CH
- OSE 5203 Geometrical Optics – 3 CH
- OSE 6265 Optical Systems Design – 3 CH
- OSE 5525 Laser Engineering – 3 CH

Applied Photonics

Focus: Photonics engineering in fiber communication systems, lasers, medicine, and aerospace and defense photonics.
Required Courses: 6 Credit Hours
- OSE 5414 Fundamentals of Optoelectronic Devices – 3 CH
- OSE 6111 Optical Wave Propagation – 3 CH
Elective Courses: 6 Credit Hours
Choose two of the following five courses:
