From the Provost News Room:
I am pleased to share that Dr. David Hagan, Pegasus Professor and Associate Dean for Academic Programs, will serve as interim dean of the College of Optics and Photonics starting Monday, December 23, as Dean Bahaa E. A. Saleh moves to the faculty.
In May, Dr. Saleh announced he would step down as dean at year’s end and return to the faculty after a distinguished tenure that began in 2009. I want to thank Dean Saleh for his leadership and commitment that has advanced the college’s world-class excellence in optics and laser research, education, and industry partnerships, and I am excited about the contributions he will continue to make as a faculty member.
Dr. Hagan joined UCF in 1987 and is a founding faculty member of CREOL, UCF’s renowned Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers. He has been instrumental in CREOL becoming internationally known for its innovation and excellence in research and academics.
He has been a major influence in shaping curriculum in the college and is highly accomplished in teaching and research. His many honors include being an International Society for Optics and Photonic Fellow, an Optical Society of America Fellow, and a Pegasus Professor, which is the highest honor a faculty member can earn at UCF.
I thank Dr. Hagan for agreeing to take on this key role as interim dean.
Early in the New Year, I will provide an update on the search for a permanent dean of the college. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Saleh and Dr. Hagan as they continue to elevate academic excellence at UCF.
