Pegasus Professor Peter Delfyett, Ph.D., was recently awarded the title “University Distinguished Professor” by UCF President Alexander Cartwright.
Cartwright’s citation acknowledges Delfyett’s “exceptional teaching, research and service, which are evident throughout his career and UCF is grateful for the lasting impact he will have on our university and students.”
Delfyett most recently earned high distinction for CREOL, College of Optics and Photonics, and the university with his induction into the National Academy of Engineering. The award follows a decades-long string of accolades, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 1996 and the American Physical Societies’ Edward Bouchet Award in 2011. His recognitions also include the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers’ 2020 William Streifer Scientific Achievement Award and the 2021 Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Sciences from the American Physical Society. He is also a fellow of the International Society for Optics and Photonics and the Optical Society of America.
