CREOL Professor Peter Delfyett Elected Optica Vice President
Delfyett will serve as Optica’s vice president beginning in 2027.
Peter J. Delfyett, University Distinguished Professor at UCF’s College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL), has been elected to serve as the 2027 vice president of Optica, the international society dedicated to advancing optics and photonics worldwide.
Delfyett was elected by Optica’s membership and will begin his term Jan. 1, 2027. In the role, he will serve on Optica’s Board of Directors and help guide the society in supporting the global optics and photonics community.
Delfyett is an internationally recognized researcher in ultrafast optics and semiconductor lasers. He joined CREOL in 1993. Over his career, he has authored more than 850 publications, holds 45 U.S. patents and has held numerous leadership positions across the optics and photonics community.
Delfyett’s honors include election to the National Academy of Engineering, the Arthur L. Schawlow Prize in Laser Science from the American Physical Society and the 2026 SPIE Harold E. Edgerton Award. He has previously served on Optica’s Board of Directors and held leadership roles with the IEEE Photonics Society, American Physical Society and National Society of Black Physicists.
