CREOL Professor Paul Leisher and CREOL alumnus David Haefner have been named 2026 Fellows of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.

The distinction of SPIE Fellow recognizes members who have made significant scientific and technical contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics and imaging, while also demonstrating meaningful service to the optics community.

Leisher, a professor at CREOL, has contributed extensively to the advancement of laser and optical technologies through his research, teaching and service to the photonics community.

Haefner, a CREOL alumnus, has built a distinguished career in the optics and photonics industry, where his technical leadership and contributions have helped advance the field.

Each year, SPIE recognizes a select group of members whose accomplishments have advanced optics and photonics through research, innovation, education and service. Election as an SPIE Fellow is one of the society’s highest honors.
