CREOL Ph.D. Student Wins Top Prize in Adobe Digital Edge Awards
Is Debasmita Banerjee’s 12-minute animated video a work of art, or science? Judges in a national digital creative contest decided it’s both.
Banerjee was honored as the winner of the STEM category – and one of two top prizes – in Adobe’s 2024 Digital Edge Awards, which recognize standout digital college projects. Banerjee’s “Quanticle” explains the modern concept of quantum optics, while also taking a look back at the field’s history. Adobe’s judges said her “continuous stance of wonder and invitation” stood out – and made her content easy to digest for those unfamiliar with the discipline.
Banerjee credits UCF Trustee Chair Professor Ayman Abouraddy with inspiration, sparking her desire to explain quantum optics to anyone and everyone.
“As someone who is gradually delving into quantum optics,” said Banerjee, “I thought it would be interesting to see how the world views it.”
