CREOL Dean David Hagan Elected SPIE Vice President
Hagan will begin a four-year term in SPIE’s presidential chain in 2027.
David Hagan, dean and Pegasus Professor at CREOL, The College of Optics and Photonics, has been elected to serve as the 2027 vice president of SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics. SPIE brings together a global membership of more than 25,000 scientists, engineers, researchers and industry professionals working to advance light-based science and technology.
The election begins a four-year term in SPIE’s presidential chain. Hagan will serve as president-elect in 2028, president in 2029 and past president in 2030.
“The world increasingly depends on photonics, and our greatest responsibility is to ensure that the next generation is ready to lead its future,” Hagan says. “I am honored to serve SPIE and look forward to working with our global community to inspire, educate and empower the scientists and engineers who will shape that future.”
The appointment recognizes Hagan’s leadership and longstanding contributions to the international optics and photonics community. In his new role, he will help guide the society’s efforts to advance light-based research, technologies and education worldwide.
