CREOL Announces 2025 Distinguished Alumni of the Year Winner
Zhibing Ge ‘04MS ‘07PhD will be honored as the 2025 Distinguished Alumnus during CREOL’s annual Industrial Affiliates Symposium in April.

Measuring Zhibing Ge ‘04MS ‘07PhD by the numbers takes quite a bit of counting: one technical book, 10 conference papers, more than 38 published scientific journal articles, 3,800+ citations, and more than 150 U.S. patents.
And those numbers are sure to increase. Today, applies his CREOL education as a Director of Hardware Engineering at a major Silicon Valley tech company.
“I am deeply grateful to CREOL for providing me with an outstanding graduate education, invaluable career opportunities, and generous financial support,” Ge says.
Ge earned his Ph.D. from a joint CREOL and Electrical Engineering program in 2007. His research focused on liquid crystal devices and optics, under the mentorship of Professor Shin-Tson Wu. After graduating, Ge continued as a research scientist within the same group for emerging display technologies, and co-authored the technical book “Transflective Liquid Crystal Displays”, published by Wiley, alongside Wu.
Ge was named CREOL’s 2025 Distinguished Alumni of the Year for not only his outstanding technical achievements over the years – but also his notable contributions to both the optics community and CREOL. His donation created the Ge and Wu Scholarship for CREOL Fund, which aims to award first-generation college students with financial support as they pursue a degree in optics and photonics.
Currently, Ge serves as a Senior Member of the Society for Information Display (SID) and as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the Society for Information Display (JSID).
