A paper by Danielle Reyes, Matthieu Baudelet, Martin Richardson and Shermineh Rostami Fairchild was featured in Journal of Applied Physics.
Entitled “Transition from linear- to nonlinear-focusing regime of laser filament plasma dynamics“, it was selected to make the cover of the journal.
As explained in the journal’s Scilight (Science highlight), their interferometric measurement produces high resolution information of the temporal and spatial aspect of the plasma induced by laser filaments. This study differentiates between a table-top “focused” plasma channel and “real life” long-range filamentation. The induced refractive index modulation and interplay with the initial laser conditions was measured and shows the conditions under which applications of filaments should be studied.
