Postdoctoral position is available, subject to funding availability, in the field of theoretical and computational optics and lasers in The College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL). We are studying dynamics of semiconductor diodes operating in CW and pulsed (in particular, ultrashort pulsed) regimes as well as dynamics and phase locking of large semiconductor diode laser arrays. One example of projected research would be modeling the dynamics and phase locking of large semiconductor diode lasers arrays subject to external cavity and/or elucidating the effect of perturbations on laser parameters, such as modulating the external current drive. Addition example of projected research would be exploring the relations between the phase-locking of diode array and the number of diodes in arrays. Studying scalability of phase locking is of high interest and importance to our group. Studying diode array phase-locking involves studying mode structure of the 1-D and 2D arrays, exploring the effects of noises and spatial irregularities on phase locking, and studying phase locking of chaotically oscillating lasers.
- PhD in the fields of Optics and/or related fields (Applied Mathematics, Engineering and Physics).
- Knowledge and experience with lasers and optical systems and strong computational skills and capabilities. Knowledge and experience with semiconductor diode lasers would be advantageous. Familiarity with nonlinear dynamics, nonlinear control, and chaos in nonlinear systems would be advantageous.
Our group collaborates with other groups in CREOL and ECE and groups outside of UCF. Ability and desire to work in a collaborative team environment would be an advantage.
For more senior applicants as well as for applicants with outstanding abilities and skills research scientist position could be considered.
