Congratulations to Michael Rusinko, an undergraduate research assistant in our lab, for being awarded the highly competitive NSF IRES LDM4T (Low Dimensional Materials for Transducers) research experience. This summer, he will spend eight weeks at Sungkyunkwan University in Suwon, South Korea, working closely with a research group that maintains strong ties to Samsung.
Through this program, Michael will receive a $12,000 stipend and gain hands-on experience in cutting-edge nanotechnology. He will be fabricating and characterizing 2D transistors, working in a cleanroom environment, and performing advanced processes such as atomic layer deposition.
In addition to the NSF opportunity, Michael was also offered the UCF Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) award to pursue a project on a Time-Domain Neuromorphic Photonic Computing System. This innovative research proposed an optical machine learning implementation designed to counteract nonlinearity and noise in a fiber channel in real time. The SURF award included a $2,000 stipend; however, due to scheduling conflicts with the NSF program, he was unable to accept it.
We are proud to support his continued success and look forward to the exciting work to come!
